Welcome to my end of year wrap up - it's been another tough year but we've made it this far!

You might be sick of hearing about COVID-19 by now - I know I am!  But for fully vaccinated people the end of many restrictions will come this week.

We're putting in place our plan (see below) to reunite families across Queensland who've been separated by domestic and international border restrictions.  While some dates are locked in, like Friday for the new restrictions, a full opening of our State depends on 90% of eligible Queenslanders aged 16 and over being fully vaccinated.

I've done my part, and so have most of my family members and friends - not only to protect ourselves, but to protect our vulnerable family members, to protect our staff and our colleagues, to protect our community.

Have you done yours?

Shane King MP
State Member for Kurwongbah
PROOF OF COVID-19 VACCINATIONS
As we approach 17 December, many businesses will be preparing to ask patrons for proof of vaccination on entry.

Information is available to help businesses where vaccinations are necessary (including an extensive Q&A section) as well as for businesses that have been declared as essential and exempt from the fully vaccinated rules.

Signage is also available online for both types of businesses (see below for a preview).
The easiest way to prove your fully vaccinated status is to link your certificate to your Check In Qld app.  Here's how:
  1. Make sure you've updated the Check In Qld app.
  2. Open the app and open the menu from the top left hand side.
  3. Select 'COVID-19 digital certificate' and tap 'add certificate' via myGov.
  4. Log-in to your myGov account, scroll to 'Proof of COVID-19 vaccination' and then select 'Go to Medicare'.
  5. Tap 'View history' and choose 'Share with check in app' and choose to share with Check In Qld.
  6. Tap 'Accept and share', then 'Accept'.
There are also other ways to add your vaccination status to your phone or mobile device, if you don't have a MyGov account for example.

And if you don't have a mobile device, you can show businesses and locations a printed copy of your:
  • immunisation history statement; or
  • COVID-19 digital certificate.
If you don't have access to a computer, you can ask your GP to print your immunisation statement, or phone 1800 653 809 to request a hard copy by post.
What do you think?  We want to know.  Have your say through our online survey, open until 28 January 2022.
CHRISTMAS HAMPER DRIVE

A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who dropped in food items for the Pine Rivers Care Network - Encircle Christmas Hamper donation drive!  You've really helped to brighten up a difficult time of year for families in our community who are doing it really tough.

We hope to make it an annual event to collect for these Christmas Hampers so please tell your friends and make a note on your calendar for next year.
The Burpengary Christmas Carols went ahead on 4 December, thanks to the great efforts of the Burpengary Community Association.  When the weather threatened to ruin the plans, they committee rolled with it - just like they've rolled with the punches delivered by COVID-19 over the past two years.

Fingers crossed we can get back to a full (and dry!) Burpengary Spectacular next year.
PARLIAMENTARY PROCEEDINGS
On 13 October, I spoke on Adjournment about the great things going on in schools across the Kurwongbah electorate.  I knew I'd need a sequel speech so I also snuck in some congratulatory words for the Dolphins who had just been announced as the winners to become the 17th team in the NRL competition for 2023 🐬🐬
Things got a bit heated on 14 October, when I spoke to a report on the Auditor-General's examination of Queensland's energy company financials by the Transport and Resources Committee that I chair.  The LNP don't always like home truths...
On 27 October, on Adjournment again, I continued my update on Kurwongbah schools. But there's no way I'll ever fit in everything that's going on in a 3 minute speech!!

Like all the awesome school graduations I got to be a part of this year (Burpengary, Jinibara & Lawnton State Schools), and those my staff attended on my behalf (Mount Maria College, Narangba Valley State High School, Burpengary State Secondary College and Narangba Valley State School).
